Neurotechnologist (Scientist position)

The Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle, Germany, NINT Department, Director Prof. Joyce Poon, is recruiting a Scientist with experience in neurotechnology. The new NINT Department is initiating a research program in neurotechnology for brain activity mapping and neural control.  New photonics, electronics, and tissue culture labs are being constructed.

 

Your tasks

  • Collaborate with the team to develop research projects in brain-computer interfaces, neural recording, neural stimulation, and neural feedback
  • Manage the establishment of the neurotechnology labs
  • Establish partnerships and collaborate with neurobiology research facilities and groups outside of the institute on animal and human experiments (in vivo and in vitro)
  • Train and work closely with researchers and students from engineering, neuroscience, and neuro-medicine disciplines to develop and conduct experiments
  • Design and build apparatus for multi-modality brain monitoring and stimulation (e.g., custom headstages, electrodes, recording/stimulation interfaces, controllers, software interfaces, microscopes)
  • Present research results in international journals and conferences
  • Manage relations with private sector partners if necessary

 

Your profile

  • Ph.D. Degree in neuroscience, engineering (e.g., electrical, biomedical), and/or applied physics discipline with 3+ years of postdoc or industry experience
  • You are motivated by grand challenges
  • You excel at independently defining problems and solving them with creativity and resourcefulness
  • You are an effective team player that excels in a fast-paced, highly dynamic, interdisciplinary and international environment
  • You have a strong set of skills across neurobiology and engineering, including animal behaviour experiments, electrophysiology, computer programming, and hardware design
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experiences in technology transfer, innovation, industry interactions, start-ups, and international academic partnerships are strong assets
