Postdoc and Ph.D. student positions at the German-Ukrainian Core of Excellence “Plasma-Spin-Energy” located at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle, Germany
The Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle, Germany, is currently looking for Postdoc and Ph.D. students for a newly established German-Ukrainian Core of Excellence (CoE) “Plasma-Spin-Energy” lead by Prof. Oleksii Chechkin.
The CoE is focused on theoretical, numerical and experimental research in the field of stochastic spintronics and advanced plasma technologies, administered by the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics (MPI-MSP) in cooperation with the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Kharkiv, Ukraine). Theoretical research is performed in close collaboration with the experimentalists in the Department Nanosystems from Ions, Spins and Electrons (NISE), Director Prof. Stuart S. P. Parkin.
Your tasks:
The tasks include theoretical or experimental studies of magnetron plasma properties, formation of atomic layers of spintronic materials using novel plasma deposition technologies, fabrication of nanoscale spintronic devices using advanced plasma etching technologies.
Your profile:
- For Ph.D. students, a Master's or equivalent academic degree in Theoretical Physics, Plasma Physics, Materials Science or related fields.
- For postdoc candidates a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics, Plasma Physics, Materials Science or related fields is required.
- Knowledge and previous experience in spintronics, plasma physics, thin-film deposition and etching is desirable.
- Good command of written and spoken English, the working language of the MPI-MSP; Ukrainian and German languages skills are an asset.

- An initial contract duration of 36 months for PhD students and 12 months for the postdoc positions with a possible extension of up to 3 years.
