4th PCNano Mini-Workshop Brings Leading Scientists to Halle

May 11, 2026

On March 23–24, 2026, the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics hosted the 4th Advances in Precision Carbon Nanostructures (PCNano) Mini-Workshop, organized within the Synthetic Materials and Functional Devices (SMFD) Department, bringing together leading international researchers in the field of carbon-based nanoscience.

The workshop focused on recent advances in the precision synthesis, characterization, and physics of quantum carbon nanostructures, highlighting the growing importance of atomically precise carbons materials in modern nanotechnology.

The event featured a distinguished lineup of invited speakers, including Klaus Müllen, Aurelio Mateo-Alonso, Pavel Jelinek, Thomas Heine, Diego Peña, Oliver Gröning, and Ji Ma, who presented their latest research and perspectives. Additionally, local representative speakers, including Dr. Muhammad Imran, Dr. Hongde Yu, Dr. Wenhui Niu, Mr. Boris Borisov, Dr. Jin-Jiang Zhang, Dr. Renxiang Liu, and Mr. Felix Trautner also shared the latest achievements. The agenda of mini-workshop can be found here.

In addition to scientific presentations, the workshop provided ample opportunities for discussion and exchange, fostering interactions between chemists, physicists, and materials scientists. A guided tour of the institute’s laboratories further introduced participants to ongoing research activities in Halle.

The PCNano workshop series aims to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange at the interface of chemistry and physics, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of precision carbon nanostructures.
