In-situ transmission electron microscopy: Method development and advanced application
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning TEM (STEM) have gained substantial impetus in the last decade in characterising materials due to routine atomic-resolution imaging and spectroscopy. Alongside, in-situ experiments gained in sophistication. Nevertheless, the basic design of modern microscopes greatly hampers the construction of many interesting experiments to be conducted in situ. Here, I will talk about successful in-situ experiments conducted with custom sample holders in unmodified high-end microscopes as well as the design and construction of a dedicated in-situ (S)TEM featuring a large experiment chamber.
