Social Media for Scientists

Abstract

A growing body of evidence suggests that public visibility on media networks can be beneficial for scientists and increase the visibility and reach of scientific research. Many Max Planck Institutes and scientists already have an online presence. In this brief presentation, Barbara Abrell, Social Media Officer at the MPG's Administrative Headquarters, will provide a broad introduction to the social media activities of the MPG, an overview of the uses for social media as well as the different types of social media used by the MPG (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube) and provide a few best practice examples. This presentation is probably most useful for social media "beginners" who are curious about how to engage with social media and just getting started.
