Prof. Joyce Poon elevated IEEE Fellow

The world’s largest technical professional organization, IEEE, has named Prof. Joyce Poon an IEEE Fellow for 2022.  Prof. Poon has been cited for “contributions to integrated photonics on silicon and resonant microphotonic devices.” She and her team  look to advance computing and reduce power consumption by using light from the infrared wavelength to the visible spectrum.

IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership, given to those whose outstanding accomplishments in engineering, science, and technology have shown significant value to society. The elevation to IEEE Fellow is attained through nomination by peers and approval by the IEEE Board of Directors for distinction in the profession.

“I am deeply honored by the elevation and cannot emphasize enough how grateful I am for the many team members and collaborators who make the work possible.”

Poon heads the Department of Nanophotonics, Integration, and Neural Technology (NINT) at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics and currently serves as the Institute’s Managing Director. She joined the Max Planck Society from the University of Toronto.
