Spin mechatronics: Mechanical generation of spin current

The study on coupling between magnetism and mechanical rotation has a long history [1,2]. The phenomena due to the coupling are caused by the angular momentum conservation between electron spin and mechanical rotation, which has been proved in the general relativistic quantum mechanics [3]. We introduce mechanical effects in spintronics and propose a variety of novel spintronics phenomena [4]. We have observed the generation of spin current by the flow of liquid metals [5]. Combining this effect with the spin Hall effect, the spin-hydrodynamic generation of electricity is obtained [6]. We also show the spin current generation by surface acoustic waves in normal metals [7]. The mechanical generation of spin current opens a door from “Spintronics” to "Spin-Mechatronics".
