Carbon-based nanoscience

This talk will first present an overview of our work in carbon-based nanosciences. I will first present our group’s earlier work of carbon-based nanomaterials including carbon nanotubes and graphene nanoribbons, including synthesis, investigation of electrical and optical properties and applications in the renewable energy field. I will then present our work on in vivo fluorescence biological imaging in the 1000-3000 nm NIR-II/short-wave infrared (SWIR) window to benefit from suppressed light scattering at long wavelengths. I will show in vivo NIR-II imaging with millimeter tissue depth, single-cell spatial resolution, and real-time temporal resolution using a wide range of nano-scale fluorescent/luminescent nanoprobes emitting > 1000 nm including carbon nanotubes, quantum dots, rare-earth down-conversion nanoparticles, and donor-acceptor organic molecules. Our latest work on non-invasive one-photon in vivo imaging of single immune cells in mouse lymph nodes under 1650 nm excitation in the 1700-2000 nm emission range will be presented.
