Travelling from Leipzig/Halle Airport

Leipzig/Halle Airport: From there by taxi to the Max Planck Institute (approx. 40 min) or by regional train (from 5.00 am to 11.00 pm) to Halle Central Station. See further by train.

Travelling from Halle (Saale) main station

IC, EC to Halle/Saale main station: Leave the station via the side exit (direction S-Bahn platform 1). The Hauptbahnhof tram stop is located diagonally to the right. Take tram lines 4 or 5 in the direction of Kröllwitz. After about 15 to 20 minutes, get off at Weinberg Campus station (one stop after Gimritzer Damm station). Cross the road at the pedestrian lights and walk up the hill (Weinberg) to the MPI (signpost).

Travelling by car

Coming from BERLIN (motorway A9)

Take the A9 motorway to the Halle exit (no. 13), turn right onto the B100 towards Halle, after approx. 10 km you will pass under the A14 motorway, continue on the B100 towards Halle until you reach the end of the B100 at a traffic light after another 5 km. You are now at the NORD-OST-TANGENTE/DESSAUER BRÜCKE intersection. At the traffic lights, turn left into the right-hand lane and drive over the Dessau bridge. While still on the bridge, immediately turn right towards Magdeburg. Follow the motorway for approx. 100 m and immediately turn right into WOLFENSTEINSTRASSE. Stay on Wolfensteinstrasse, cross REILSTRASSE, Wolfensteinstrasse becomes BRUNNENSTRASSE, continue along Brunnenstrasse. Always follow the turning right of way until you finally cross the SAALE on the GIEBICHENSTEIN-BRÜCKE. Turn right immediately after the bridge and drive along the Saale along TALSTRASSE (one-way street!) to the stop sign, turn left at the stop sign onto WEINBERGWEG, after 200 m you will see the Technologie- und Gründerzentrum Halle (TGZ) on the left. At the TGZ turn left into WOLFGANG-LANGENBECK-STRASSE (sign for MPI), at the next junction turn right up KURT-MOTHES-STRASSE, pass the Chemical Institute, at the top turn right (WEINBERG). The Max Planck Institute is 50 metres further on the left. There are plenty of parking spaces available.

Coming from DRESDEN, MAGDEBURG (motorway A14):

Leave the A14 motorway at the HALLE/PEISSEN exit onto the B100 towards Halle. Continue as described above.

Coming from MUNICH (A9 motorway):

Take the A9 to the RIPPACHTAL motorway junction, then take the A38 towards GÖTTINGEN, continue on the A38 to the HALLE-SÜD motorway junction and then take the A143 towards MAGDEBURG/HALLE. At the HALLE-NEUSTADT exit, take the B80 towards HALLE. Once you have reached Halle, stay in the left-hand lane and drive straight on under the Magistrale - not towards the city centre. You are now on the GIMRITZER DAMM. Follow the sign ‘MARTIN-LUTHER-UNIVERSITÄT’. After about 1 km there is a junction with traffic lights. Turn right into WEINBERGWEG and after 200 m you will see the Technologie- und Gründerzentrum Halle (TGZ) on your right. At the TGZ turn right into WOLFGANG-LANGENBECK-STRASSE (signpost to the MPI), at the next junction turn right up KURT-MOTHES-STRASSE, pass the Chemical Institute, at the top turn right (WEINBERG). The Max Planck Institute is 50 metres further on the left. There are plenty of parking spaces there.

Coming from EISLEBEN (federal highway B80):

After reaching Halle, stay in the left lane and drive straight ahead under the Magistrale and onto GIMRITZER DAMM - not towards the city centre. Continue as described above.
