Prof. Aleksei Chechkin joins the PLASMA-SPIN Energy project
Prof. Chechkin from the University of Potsdam, Germany will be actively included in the PLASMA-SPIN Energy project. Regarding the project topics, he will complement the team with his expertise in theoretical physics. Together the scientific concept of the project can be further developed and optimized.
During a visit at the MPI Halle, Prof. Stuart Parkin and Prof. Aleksei Chechkin confirmed their interest to work together in the development of a Ukrainian-German Core of Excellence.
Prof. Chechkin graduated from Moscow State University, Physics Department and got his Ph.D. and DSc (analogous to Dr. habil.) in the specialty of "Plasma Physics". Since 2006 he is a Leading Staff Scientist in the Akhiezer Institute for Theoretical Physics of National Science Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology" (Ukraine), and in 2017 he joined the University of Potsdam (Germany), since 2019 as a contract professor at the Institute for Physics and Astronomy.
In his previous research career, he collected a lot of experience in the international research environment due to several fellowships and as visiting professor at TU Dresden (Germany) and the University of Padova (Italy). He has published about 160 research papers and contributed to several books.
His current research interests include:
- non-equilibrium statistical mechanics
- kinetic theory
- transport processes, noises and random walks in physical and biological systems
- plasma fluctuations and turbulence
Within the framework of the PLASMA-SPIN Energy Project Prof. Chechkin
will conduct a theoretical research on stochastic dynamics and manipulation of magnetic
textures in two-dimensional ferromagnets, and on optimization of plasma processes
in magnetron discharges for growing thin magnetic films.
